HB 581: Insurance Consumer Bill of Rights Act

Session 2021-22

HB 581 would place unreasonable requirements on insurers to collect and provide excessive information before settling a claim, thus creating a legal climate where more insurance claims proceed to trial. This legislation requires that insurers advise claimants to their rights under this act. Furthermore, HB 581 reduces the amount of time from 60 to 30 days that insurers have to offer a settlement. This would place a significant burden on insurers and negatively affect Georgia’s legal climate for businesses. HB 581 did not receive a floor vote in either chamber.
